We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher to join 4SeaFlood, the first study of compound flooding of its kind in the Adriatic Sea. The project explores how storm surge, river discharge, sea waves, and intense rainfall interact to produce coastal flooding, combining statistical analysis, machine learning, and numerical modelling to support risk assessment and climate adaptation.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and analyze multi-source hydrometeorological datasets (storm surge, waves, river flow, rainfall).
- Develop statistical workflows for joint probability and scenario definition.
- Set up and run hydrodynamic models for tidal–fluvial and coastal domains.
- Conduct spatial analysis and mapping in QGIS/ArcGIS.
- Evaluate present-day and future compound-flood scenarios under climate change.
- Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team and with partner EU groups during short research visits.
Requirements
- PhD in hydrology, oceanography, coastal engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in Python and/or R for data analysis and modelling.
- Background in numerical modelling (coastal/river) and/or GIS.
- Familiarity with time-series analysis, extreme-value methods, or tidal–fluvial dynamics is a plus.
- Comfortable with version control and reproducible workflows; strong written and spoken English.
