Our team members working on the coastal engineering aspects of compound flooding have recently published two papers in the Journal of Marine Science and Engineering:
- Hindcasting Extreme Significant Wave Heights Under Fetch-Limited Conditions with Tree-Based Models
J. Mar. Sci. Eng. 2025, 13(7), 1355
https://doi.org/10.3390/jmse13071355
This study presents a novel machine learning approach for hindcasting waves in semi-enclosed coastal basins, offering a lightweight and interpretable alternative to traditional reanalysis models. - Overtopping over Vertical Walls with Storm Walls on Steep Foreshores
J. Mar. Sci. Eng. 2025, 13(7), 1285
https://doi.org/10.3390/jmse13071285
This paper investigates how storm walls can effectively reduce wave overtopping on steep foreshores, proposing a new empirical formulation for coastal protection design under climate change conditions.
These contributions advance the understanding of wave dynamics and coastal defense design, supporting the 4SeaFlood project’s goal of improving resilience of coastal areas in Croatia under present and future climate conditions.
