On June 14th, we attended the 18th Days of the Croatian Chamber of Civil Engineers in Opatija. Nino Krvavica spoke at a round table on climate change, presenting the 4SEAFLOOD project, which addresses the risks of compound flooding—when multiple flood sources co-occurr, causing severe impacts.
Understanding compound flooding is crucial for civil engineers because it enhances risk assessment, informs resilient infrastructure design, aids in developing adaptation strategies, and guides effective policy and planning. Nino’s insights highlighted the essential role of engineers in mitigating the effects of climate change and ensuring community safety. The event underscored the importance of knowledge exchange in advancing the field of civil engineering.
